02/27/2013 Revelation 8:

Revelation 8:6–9 (ESV)

The Seven Trumpets
6 Now the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared to blow them.
7 The first angel blew his trumpet, and there followed hail and fire, mixed with blood, and these were thrown upon the earth. And a third of the earth was burned up, and a third of the trees were burned up, and all green grass was burned up.
8 The second angel blew his trumpet, and something like a great mountain, burning with fire, was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became blood. 9 A third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.

If you remember at the beginning of Revelation, I mentioned that it is one revelation that is like a whole pie, yet each slice is a different flavor.  Well I see the Seven Trumpets happening at the same time as the opening of the Seven Seals.  We are simply looking at the Last Day from a different lens or perspective.  Yet when I read the perspective of the Seven Trumpets, I think of a point where there is a turning point in the clamity.  Much like in the movie “The Clash of the Titans”, I see the Seven Trumpets much like the point in the movie where the Zeus calls out to “Release the Kraken!”  This is a time when this huge squid man monster comes wrecking havoc.  Well, it is going to be catastrophic when the Seven Trumpets are being blown.

The first angel blows the trumpet, hail and fire, mixed with blood comes raining down on earth.  This kind of reminds me of Sodom and Gomorrah, or even more so... the seventh plague in Egypt.  Scripture says: Exodus 9:22–26 (ESV) “22 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward heaven, so that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, on man and beast and every plant of the field, in the land of Egypt.” 23 Then Moses stretched out his staff toward heaven, and the Lord sent thunder and hail, and fire ran down to the earth. And the Lord rained hail upon the land of Egypt. 24 There was hail and fire flashing continually in the midst of the hail, very heavy hail, such as had never been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. 25 The hail struck down everything that was in the field in all the land of Egypt, both man and beast. And the hail struck down every plant of the field and broke every tree of the field. 26 Only in the land of Goshen, where the people of Israel were, was there no hail.”

The Second Trumpet is blown and a great burning mountain is hurled into the sea.  A third of the sea became blood and a third of the sea creature die along with a third of the ship.  So a third of the third of the Earth is burned up and a third of the sea is destroyed.  Not good!  Well... the Lord is going to make a new Heaven and a new Earth.  Why?  Because He is going to destroy the old Earth and Heaven.  I remember all the smoke in the air when Mount St. Helen blew her top.  It made a mess and Mt. St. Helen is nowhere near a third of the Earth.  This will be the End Times!  Wait... more trumpets to come!  I pray: Lord I’m not sure I want to be here on the Last Day, I think I would rather be watching from a seat in the nose-bleed section (that is.. Heaven). I want to be far away from this time period.   As we pray in the Lord’s Prayer... Thy Will be done!  I will be giving thanks and praise for that separation of the sheep from the goats.  Amen!
