2 John 12–13 (ESV)
Final Greetings
12 Though I have
much to write to you, I would rather not use paper and ink. Instead I hope to come to you and talk face to face, so that our joy may be complete.
13 The children of your elect sister greet you.
This is the closing of 2 John giving his final greetings. It’s a short passage, but it sure is filled with comfort and love. It’s almost as if a best friend is writing to you and there is so much
he wants to say to you. This takes me back to my family traveling to Choudrant, LA, to visit family. My mom didn’t get to see her sister much, but when we got there, we sat around in chairs until 2-3 in the morning. There was not enough
time in the day. We crashed and burned (fell asleep) for a few hours and then woke up for breakfast. We sat around and talked all day until 2-3 in the morning again. This would go on until we left, usually after 2-3 days. My Uncle Ikey
would wave good bye with tears coming down his face. I can’t wait to see him face to face, along with Aunt Clarice, Uncle Buddy, my cousin Anna Claire and Barbara, and of course my dad. It will be even greater to see God face-to-face.
I know they all have so much to tell me. I can’t wait to see them in heaven. This is what this ending does for me, and it brings me a lot of joy, but it will not be complete until I see God face to face. Seeing someone in person is
so much better than writing them, but sometimes that is all you do. I pray: Lord, I can’t wait to come home and to be with you, and to see my loved ones living in your Kingdom. Until that day comes, mold me and use me to spread your
love to others, to share in the forgiveness of sins, and receive the peace of everlasting life. Thank you for your precious gifts. Amen.
