1 John 3:1-3 (ESV)
3 See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is
that it did not know him. 2 Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. 3 And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself
as he is pure.
This text is a continuation of the “Children of God” from yesterday. It telling us how much the Father loves us. The unbelieving world cannot see or get this, due
to they don’t know God. They have their ideas, but their ideas are wrong. When John writes: “The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.” This reminds me of a childhood friend of mine
that I must admit was different. Many people were mean to him or said bad things about him. He was a good friend, just different. Because he didn’t fit the mold of the other kids, they made fun of him. I defended him because he
was my friend and I knew him. They didn’t know anything about him, nor did they even try to know or understand him. They didn’t want too, and that was their loss. They missed out on knowing someone who was really great.
They missed a golden opportunity.
The world (nonbelievers) does not know God, nor do they want to know him. Their hearts are hard as they ridicule and belittle Him. They simply don’t
understand Him. God’s love for them is so great that he still wants to reach out to them and win them over. Eventually, everyone will come to know that there is a one God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. When Christ returns (as He
promised) every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Unfortunately it will be too late for the unbelievers. In that twinkling of an eye, they will know that they were wrong. How sad. What a loss.
For when they will come to everlasting damnation, we will be made perfect, living in the presence of God. We will see Him face to face and be like Him... being sinless, righteous, and eternal. Such a contrast! This makes me want to get out
and tell more people about Jesus, because I know what is coming. If 10,000 people reject my reaching out, but 1 comes to know Jesus as his Lord and Savior... it will make all the difference in the world to that 1 person. It was a Gold Opportunity!
I pray: Lord help me in my daily journey to take advantage of every opportunity to share Jesus Christ. Help me to be bold in planting the seeds of faith and help me to let you Lord, to take care of the conversion. Amen.
