Luke 3:15–17 (ESV)
15 As the people were in expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Christ, 16 John answered them all, saying, “I baptize you
with water, but he who is mightier than I is coming, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 17 His winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor
and to gather the wheat into his barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.”
People were asking who is John? Is he the promised Messiah? Well… John makes it quite clear that he is not the Messiah, but is yet to come. John also makes it clear that the Messiah will be greater than himself.
I pray: O Lord Jesus Christ, You are the Messiah! You are the promised one. I give thanks for
your virgin birth, life, death, and resurrection… for my sins. Help me to always trust in the faith you have given me for the forgiveness of my sins and my eternal life. Amen.
