Mark 9:30–32 (ESV)
Jesus Again Foretells Death, Resurrection
30 They
went on from there and passed through Galilee. And he did not want anyone to know, 31 for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill
him. And when he is killed, after three days he will rise.” 32 But they did not understand the saying, and were afraid to ask him.
Jesus repeats the prophecy of His Passion and resurrection while the disciples listen in frightened silence. Death is frightening and confusing when we cannot see the promised resurrection. Yet, Jesus bears our fears as well as our sins on the cross
in order to deliver us.
I pray: Lord, break our fear of death by reminding us that You have died, never to die again. Today, open our frightened hearts
with the resurrection’s promise; one day, open our closed eyes with the resurrection’s power. Amen.[1]
