Mark 8:27–30 (ESV)
Peter Confesses Jesus as the Christ
27 And
Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” 28 And they told him, “John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah;
and others, one of the prophets.” 29 And he asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Christ.” 30 And he strictly charged them
to tell no one about him.
For the first time in Mk, one of the Twelve recognizes Jesus as the Christ, God’s Anointed One. How slow we are and how dull is
our understanding of Jesus’ divinity! We see and yet do not see. And so it is that Jesus graciously continues revealing Himself to us through Word and Sacrament. His Spirit works in us the faith that claims, “Jesus is the Christ.”
I pray: Lord Jesus, help us to see You as the true Son of the Father, the Christ anointed as our prophet, priest, and king. Rule us graciously for all eternity.
Amen.[1]
