Matthew 7:7–11 (ESV)
Ask, and It Will Be Given
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one
who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? 11 If
you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
verses are not my favorite verses. When you read this, it makes it sound like that God will give you whatever you ask for. Well… give me a $10,000,000! What is missing is a big caveat. This caveat is found in 1 John 5:14-15 “if
we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.” The $10,000,000 is my will, not the Father’s
will. We must take all the full counsel of the scriptures, which means to include “the Father’s will”. We don’t get whatever we ask for, but God gives according to His will. Now, something to think about…
what He has given me is worth far more than $10,000,000. Forgiveness of sins and eternal life are priceless.
I pray: O Lord, help me to be
content with what you have given me and help me to treasure the priceless gift of salvation. Amen.
