Matthew 3:16–17 (ESV)
The Baptism of Jesus (Part 2)
16 And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; 17 and
behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
What happened after the Baptism of Jesus was startling and
completely unexpected. The entire Trinity was revealed when the Father’s voice declared Jesus to be His beloved Son and the Spirit descended on Him. Mel: “In the New Testament the three persons are most clearly revealed in the baptism of Christ,
where the Father says, ‘This is My beloved Son,’ and the Son is seen standing publicly in the river, and the Holy Spirit sits in visible form upon the Son” (Chem, LTh 1:51).[1]
I pray: O Lord, we get a glimpse of the Holy Trinity at your baptism. The “Let us make man in our own image” was revealed. Amen.
