2 John 1–3 (ESV)
Greeting
1 The elder to the elect lady and her children, whom I love in truth, and not only I,
but also all who know the truth, 2 because of the truth that abides in us and will be with us forever:
3 Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us, from God the Father and from Jesus Christ
the Father’s Son, in truth and love.
The apostle John and all who truly know Christ as the Father’s Son in human flesh love one another in truth. False disciples refused to confess that Jesus was God in human flesh (1Jn 2:18–25;
4:1–6). They neither knew the truth nor loved the Christians to whom John wrote. Those who know Jesus know the truth and, along with Jesus, they have grace, mercy, and peace.
I pray: Heavenly Father, by Your own true Son,
You have revealed the truth to us in love. Protect us from all who would take this truth and love from us by the deception of wise-sounding error. Keep us in Christ, who is the “way, and the truth, and the life” (Jn 14:6). Amen.[1]
