2 Peter 3:11–13 (ESV)
The Day of the Lord Will Come
11 Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, 12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God,
because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! 13 But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
While we wait for a new heaven and a new earth, we are to be actively living for Christ. Yes, I am a Lutheran and I did say that. We are saved by grace, but a
byproduct of our faith is to do good works. We do not do good works to go to heaven, instead… we do good works because we are going to heaven. It is out of love and gratitude that we return God’s love for us. First comes our
justification, then comes our sanctification which does include good works. Our works point to our saving faith. Faith comes first. It is a gift of God.
I pray: O Lord, help us to cling to our saving faith and to actively live for Christ. Amen.
