2 Peter 3:8–10 (ESV)
The Day of the Lord Will Come (Part 2)
8 But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar,
and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.
In yesterday’s reading, we see people giving up on the Second Coming. We learn in today’s reading that God’s time and our time are not the same. The scriptures say: “that with
the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” Notice (important) that it does NOT say a day is a thousand years. It says that one
day is as (or like) a thousand years. God lives outside the boundaries of time. Time is irrelevant to God. He will get to the Second Coming when He is ready. It is not based on our schedules. But when it comes, it will come like
a thief in the night.
I pray: O Lord, help me to be ever ready for
your Second Coming and to not be caught off guard. Amen.
