2 Peter 1:1–2 (ESV)
1 Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ,
To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:
grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
Peter’s greeting identifies himself as a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ. It is one thing to be an apostle. An apostle is a God-appointed teacher and leader for the New Testament churches. To be a servant is to be a “slave”
to Christ. He is to serve Christ and has been purchased with His blood on the cross. Peter does not want to have a superior faith to that of the disciples but wants them to have a faith equal to his… he wants them to grow in faith.
I pray: O Lord, help me to grow in your Word and faith. Let your
Word shape and mold me according to your will. Amen.
