James 2:14–17 (ESV)
Faith Without Works Is Dead
14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in
daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? 17 So also faith by itself,
if it does not have works, is dead.
If we are not wanting to help out our brother in need, then where is our faith? Now there are circumstances where
it is in our best interest and our bother’s best interest to “not” help them. This is when we are “enablers” of their problem instead of helpers. Too often, we don’t even want to be helpers because we have been
taken advantage by other people. Yet we are still to put our faith into action.
I pray: O Lord, help me to put my faith into action and to know the
difference between helping and enabling. Help me to err on the side of the Gospel. Amen.
