Hebrews 10:26–31 (ESV)
The
Full Assurance of Faith
26 For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth,
there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries. 28 Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies
without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses. 29 How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which
he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know him who said, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge his people.” 31 It
is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
I think
too often that Christians do not take their sins seriously. They take everyone else’s sins seriously, but not their own. It is easy to see other’s sins and overlook our own. As we study the Bible, we learn to look into the mirror
and to see ourselves for who we really are… sinners. Even when we know about our sins, do we make an effort to stop sinning? The author of Hebrews states: “26 For if we go on sinning deliberately after
receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries.” We are to stop sinning!
I know this is an impossibility… but we still try. We don’t say we can’t stop it, so let’s just keep doing it. Why try to stop. God calls us to “be Holy!”
I pray: O Lord, I know I fall short and I am a sinner. I repent and want to do better. Help me to take my eyes
off myself and to focus on you. Amen.
