Hebrews 7:20–22 (ESV)
Jesus Compared to Melchizedek (Part 3)
20 And it was not without an oath. For those who formerly became priests were made such without an oath, 21 but this one was made a priest with
an oath by the one who said to him:
“The Lord has sworn
and will not change his mind,
‘You are a priest forever.’ ”
22 This makes Jesus the guarantor
of a better covenant.
Jesus did not become a high priest through man, but through God. I love verse 22 saying “This makes Jesus the guarantor
of a better covenant.” I worked in the banking industry shortly after graduating from college. To guarantee that funds in the bank were covered, you had FDIC for banks and FSLIC for savings and loans. They guaranteed deposits
up to $100,000 in case the bank fails. Your money was backed up to that amount. If you had $200,000 in the account, then $100,000 was covered and the other $100,000 was at risk if the bank failed. The FDIC was the guarantor. Today,
the FDIC insurance covers up to $250,000. For us and for our Salvation, Jesus is our guarantor and He does not have any limits.
I pray: O Lord, you
have my back and you are my guarantor. Thank you for your forgiveness, eternal life, and Salvation. Amen.
