Hebrews 5:5–6 (ESV)
Jesus the Great High Priest
5 So also Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him,
“You are my Son,
today I have begotten you”;
6 as he says also in another place,
“You are a priest forever,
after the order of Melchizedek.”
One of the things I love in the Lutheran Church
(LCMS) is that someone can’t just self-proclaim themselves to be a pastor. Even going to the seminary does not make one a pastor. He is not a pastor until a congregation “calls” him. Then he is ordained and installed as
a pastor. Jesus was not a self-proclaimed priest like David Koresh, Jim Jones, or others. He was called by God. He is of the order of “Melchizedek”. Now Melchizedek is an interesting character. He has no beginning
or end, and is a priest forever. The same thing is said about Jesus. Maybe Melchizedek and Jesus… are one in the same.
I pray: O
Jesus, you are my high priest, and will be forever. Amen.
