Hebrews 3:1–6 (ESV)
Jesus Greater Than Moses
3 Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, 2 who was faithful to him who appointed him, just
as Moses also was faithful in all God’s house. 3 For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself. 4 (For
every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.) 5 Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, to testify to the things that were to be spoken later, 6 but
Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son. And we are his house, if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope.
It is interesting that today’s reading, it says to consider “Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession.” I will be preaching on the Lord’s Prayer… not the one we recite every Sunday, but the prayer Jesus
makes to God on behalf of us. Today’s passage confirms that Jesus is our high priest.. and he is more glorious than Moses. I love the passage that says “For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more glory
as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself. 4 (For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.)” When I lived in Austin, many neighborhoods were defined by the builder.
There were Milburn homes, D.R. Horton homes, Ryland and many others. I remember a friend bought a house and when he cut back the overgrown hedges, there was a brick identifying the home as a Smith built home which carried a lot of weight. Well,
there was Moses, Elijah, Isaiah, Joshua and many old testament prophets… of which Moses was a priest. Jesus is more glorious because he IS the Son of God.
I pray: O Lord, today I go to church and will worship Jesus, the Son of God… who is part of the Trinity. Amen.
