1 Timothy 1:8–11 (ESV)
8 Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, 9 understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and
sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, 10 the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound
doctrine, 11 in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted.
I had a person complaining to me about the stance of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod on the issue of homosexuality. This is also a person who said they didn’t care about doctrine.
Well, Paul hits on this issue… both issues today. But let’s not limit it to homosexuality. Paul also mentions many other concerned areas… such as liars, perjurers, murderers, those who strike the mothers or fathers. So
leaving homosexuality in the formula, let’s not forget or ignore the others mentioned. And remember, we are called to love our neighbors and our enemies.
I pray: O Lord, help me to uphold your teachings and your doctrines. Help me to love all people, but not the sins. Amen.
