Ephesians 1:11–14 (ESV)
Spiritual Blessings in Christ
11 In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, 12 so that we who were the
first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. 13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who
is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
In continuation of yesterday’s reading, we continue to
see that it is God’s work in us, not our work for God. Verse 11 states: 11 In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel
of his will, 12 so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. Notice that “In him we have obtained an inheritance…” An inheritance is a gift to us from someone
who has died… or the giver. We do not get to dictate what we give, not the person who owns the property gets to determine who he gives the inheritance… not the other way around. Again, our faith and salvation is a gift from God, not
something we make up or create ourselves. And wait… there is much more coming on this topic in chapter 2!
I pray: O Lord, I give thanks that
you have predestined me through faith to receive the inheritance. This is your gift to me, and I thank you. Amen.
