Matthew 27:1–2 (ESV)
Jesus Delivered to Pilate
27 When morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death. 2 And they bound him and led him away and delivered
him over to Pilate the governor.
Historically, there has been questioning in the scholar world as to whether Pilate actually existed. If you believe
the Bible to be the inspired word of God, then yes. If you did not believe in the “Inspiration of scripture,” then you can question anything. Since I believe in the inspiration of scripture, But, in June of 1961, an archaeologist uncovered
a stone that had Pilate’s name on it. The stone reads: “Pontius Pilate, Prefect of Judea.” Suddenly… he did exist.
I pray:
O Lord, I believe your Word, but so often I do not follow it. Help me to study your word and to walk according to it. I know I am saved by grace and not by how well I walk in your ways, but I repent and want to do better. Amen.
