Matthew 24:29–31 (ESV)
The Coming of the Son of Man
29 “Immediately
after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then will appear in heaven the sign of
the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they
will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
This is the Second Coming. Many of our Christian brothers believe in the
“Left Behind” theology of the End Times. To make the “rapture” work, they have to resort to a “secret coming” which is not in the Bible. Notice in today’s reading, the coming of Christ is marked with angels
and a loud trumpet call. The loud trumpet call seems to do away with a “secret coming”. The other day, I was watching a white pickup truck crossing a railroad track and the car in front of him was going slow.
Now this is the funny part… the truck was equipped with an actual train horn. When he hit that horn… the car jumped like a bat out of hell getting off the tracks. I suppose their pants had some stains too. The point I’m
making is that when Christ comes, that is when we see him in the clouds, it will not be a secret. It is the End Times. Judgement day is here when the angels gather the elect.
I pray: O Lord, I look forward to seeing you come in the clouds with the angels and the loud trumpet call. I know that Judgement day is here. I repent of my sins and want to do better. Thank you for your grace,
mercy, and forgiveness. Amen.
