Matthew 5:27–30 (ESV)
have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If
your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and
throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.
Jesus is turning up the heat on the Sixth Commandment:
Thou shall not commit adultery. I have heard a lot of funny interpretations of this, and just shake my head. One person said this only applies to married people, so he can have all the sex he wants since he is not married. Ha… wrong!
Jesus not only turns up the heat, but basically condemns all red-blooded men in this world. Forget about adultery, he says “everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” I have
laughed at this because I know where my mind is going everytime the old Baywatch show came on. I could never find the remote fast enough to change channels. What we do see is how serious Jesus takes sexual sins. It is a hell or heaven issue.
We are saved by faith, but if you have issues in this area… stop it!
I pray: O Lord, I repent of my sins and want to do better. Sexual sins
have taken down many great people and many in the Bible… including King David. Help me to keep my eyes focused on you. Amen.
