Matthew 5:7–9 (ESV)
The Beatitudes
7 “Blessed
are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
9 “Blessed
are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Today we look at three more beatitudes. Verse 7 says ““Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall receive mercy.” When you come to understand God’s mercy on you, then mercy should overflow from us to others. It is something we spiritually want to share with others. Verse 8 talks about the “pure in heart.”
This is having a heart for God, not other gods. In this world today, it is common to see people calling themselves Christians, yet they dabble in horoscopes, astrology, fortune tellers, witchcraft, or other religions. God makes it clear that He
is a jealous God and we are to worship no other gods. Verse 9 says “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. I hear people say “visualize world peace.” The peace that Jesus brings is different
from world peace. It is the peace during good times and bad times of knowing that we are saved and we are going to heaven. We have no fear of death.
I
pray: O Lord, help me to be merciful, devoted with a pure heart, and living in the peace of the Lord. Amen.
