Matthew 3:1–3 (ESV)
John the Baptist Prepares the Way
3 In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, 2 “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” 3 For
this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah when he said,
“The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
‘Prepare the way of the Lord;
make his paths straight.’ ”
John is the fulfillment
of “the one crying in the wilderness.” His message was simple: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Such a simple message. But what does “repent” mean? To repent means to acknowledge that
what you did was wrong (sorry) and to turn from that sin back to God (change). I like to think about driving down the highway and you realize you are headed the wrong direction. You must stop and turn around.
I pray: O Lord, help me to repent of my sins and to turn from my sins and focus on You. Amen.
