Matthew 2:13–15 (ESV)
The Flight to Egypt
13 Now
when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.”
14 And he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt 15 and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, “Out
of Egypt I called my son.”
I tend to beat myself down over this passage. An angel of the Lord tells
Joseph to get up and go to Egypt. I’m glad it was Joseph and not me. I’m afraid (being honest)… I would have told God that we will head out first thing in the morning and roll over and go back to sleep. I must admit that
I don’t know how convincing the angel of the Lord was… I just know how I am in the middle of the night. I would like to think that I too would have gotten up and went in the middle of the night.
I pray: O Lord, help me to be obedient to your Word and to react quickly like Joseph. Amen.
