Genesis 45:1–3 (ESV)
Joseph Provides for His Brothers and Family
45 Then Joseph could not control himself before all those who stood by him. He cried, “Make everyone go out from me.” So no one stayed with him when Joseph made himself known to his brothers. 2 And
he wept aloud, so that the Egyptians heard it, and the household of Pharaoh heard it. 3 And Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph! Is my father still alive?” But his brothers could not answer him, for they were
dismayed at his presence.
I think of this as The Unveiling! Joseph tells his brothers “I am Joseph!”. This must have caught his brother’s
off guard because they think he is dead or at least they will never see him again. It is fitting to have this text pop up on Easter Day! I didn’t plan it, just going through the Bible. What would be going through their minds when the
brother they ditched and sold as a slave is now alive and before them. Their lives could be flashing before their eyes and they might think that he will seek revenge. I’m sure they were scared! They were speechless! The Bible
says “But his brothers could not answer him, for they were dismayed at his presence.”
I pray: O Lord, help us to not be afraid, and to trust
you at all times. Your resurrection is our proof that you are God. Amen.
