Genesis 44:1–2 (ESV)
Joseph Tests His Brothers
44 Then he commanded the steward of his house, “Fill the men’s sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put each man’s money in the mouth of his sack, 2 and
put my cup, the silver cup, in the mouth of the sack of the youngest, with his money for the grain.” And he did as Joseph told him.
Can you imagine
the roller coaster ride that his brothers are having? There is the money in the grain sacks. Simeon was kept as collateral so that they would bring Benjamin back. Now, the money is put back again into the grain sacks, along with Joseph’s
silver cup. They are trying to be honest, but Joseph keeps playing with them… yet he still loves them and cares for them. This will be revealed later. But his brothers keep getting set up and I bet they are very nervous and untrusting.
Sometimes I think the Lord is playing with us… I am just glad that I am not Job! God allowed Satan to play with Job. I just hope I can be as strong as Job. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.”
Prov. 3:5
I pray: O Lord, I don’t always understand how or why you allow things to happen, but I know I always grow from it. Help me to keep
my eyes on you. Amen.
