Genesis 42:1–5 (ESV)
Joseph’s Brothers Go to Egypt
42 When Jacob learned that there was grain for sale in Egypt,
he said to his sons, “Why do you look at one another?” 2 And he said, “Behold, I have heard that there is grain for sale in Egypt. Go down and buy grain for us there, that we may live and
not die.” 3 So ten of Joseph’s brothers went down to buy grain in Egypt. 4 But Jacob did not send Benjamin, Joseph’s brother, with his brothers,
for he feared that harm might happen to him. 5 Thus the sons of Israel came to buy among the others who came, for the famine was in the land of Canaan.
Now, on the home front, Jacob
is running out of grain and has heard that there is grain for sale in Egypt. So, Jacob sends Joseph’s brothers to buy grain and bring it back home. This is a strange twist that could have never been foreseen. Joseph’s brothers
head to Egypt to buy grain from Joseph! The Lord works in mysterious ways.
I pray: O Lord, when I think I’m in control… things fall apart. Help me to acknowledge that You are in control and help me to trust
You and your ways. Amen.
