Genesis 41:46–49 (ESV)
Joseph Rises to Power
46 Joseph
was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh and went through all the land of Egypt. 47 During the seven plentiful years the earth
produced abundantly, 48 and he gathered up all the food of these seven years, which occurred in the land of Egypt, and put the food in the cities. He put in every city the food from the fields around it. 49 And
Joseph stored up grain in great abundance, like the sand of the sea, until he ceased to measure it, for it could not be measured.
Joseph had been sold into
slavery 13 years before today’s reading. His brothers treated him wrongly, yet 13 years later… he second in charge… as he serves Pharaoh. Gee… what are his brothers doing now? Joseph not only believes Pharaoh’s
dream, but he puts in his (Joseph’s) plan to save the people from the drought. He is an honest, hard working man that is full of integrity. What if we all had Joseph’s attitude?
I pray: O Lord, help me to serve you like Joseph served you. Help me to trust in your plans like Joseph did. Help me to not get caught up in the poor pitiful me’s. Amen.
