Genesis 30:9–13 (ESV)
Jacob’s Children
9 When Leah saw that she had ceased bearing children, she took her servant Zilpah and gave her to Jacob as a wife. 10 Then Leah’s servant Zilpah bore
Jacob a son. 11 And Leah said, “Good fortune has come!” so she called his name Gad. 12 Leah’s servant Zilpah bore Jacob a second son. 13 And
Leah said, “Happy am I! For women have called me happy.” So she called his name Asher.
Spending
part of my life on a cattle ranch, Jacob reminds me of a bull. Our ranch was small, but there was one bull for about 70 head of cattle. I wonder if he woke up with a smile on his face and saying: “Ladies, let’s get to work!! Please
forgive my sense of humor. What we are reading is the building up of the Tribe of Israel. God works through our short-falls. Thank the Lord that He is forgiving.
I pray: O Lord, again I pray to help me walk according to your ways. I know I fall short and I am a sinner. Forgive me and use me to carry out your will. I repent and want to do better. Amen!
