Genesis 27:14–17 (ESV)
Isaac Blesses Jacob (Part 3)
14 So he went and took them and brought them to his mother, and his mother prepared delicious food, such as his father loved. 15 Then Rebekah took the best garments of Esau her older
son, which were with her in the house, and put them on Jacob her younger son. 16 And the skins of the young goats she put on his hands and on the smooth part of his neck. 17 And she put the
delicious food and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.
Reflecting back in the readings, Jacob tricked Essau out of the birthright
by selling it for a bowl of red stew. Now mama is aiding and abetting by preparing the meal and having Jacob put on Essau’s best clothes. She even has Jacob wrap some goat skin on his arms so that blind Isaac will think it is Essau, not Jacob.
A big part of the deception is based on smells, because Isaac is blind. Also, the best garments indicates that this is special… and perhaps religious celebration. Whatever… mama is deep into this deception.
I pray: Oh Lord, help us to turn from sin on to walk according to your ways. Forgive us when we fall short and help me to focus on you. Forgive me Lord. Amen.
