Genesis 6:1–4 (ESV)

Increasing Corruption on Earth

When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.

This is a vague passage that the movie Noah exploited and took artistic license and turned the Nephilim into rock monsters.  I believe they have blown the interpretation, but it did add a different twist to the movie.  I do not recommend the movie because it is so far off from good and proper theology.   The “sons of God” is to be interpreted as Godly believers and the daughters of men” is to be interpreted as unbelievers who have chosen the ways of the world.  We see that the world is becoming more corrupt.  The verse that states “his days shall be 120 years” has been often translated as a shortening of man’s lifespan.  We do see a rapid decrease in the lifespan of man, but we will still see some longer lifespans.

I pray:  O Lord, help me to keep my eyes focused on you and to walk your narrow path.  I give thanks for the saving faith you have given me.  Amen.
