Genesis 3:20–24 (ESV)
The Fall (Part 6)
man called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living. 21 And the Lord God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them.
22 Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us in knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reach out his hand and take also of the tree of life and eat, and live forever—”
23 therefore the Lord God sent him out from the garden of Eden to work the ground from which he was taken. 24 He drove out the man, and at the east of the
garden of Eden he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life.
There is a lot going on in verse 21. Later in the Bible, later says that blood must be shed for the forgiveness of sins. Well, Adam and Eve have sinned… so what about forgiveness? It says in verse 21 “the Lord God made
for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them.” Making a ferment from skins means that an animal was killed and thus, blood was shed. So what about you? Jesus died on the cross and you are saved by his blood shed on the
cross.” Well… you are saved by faith, but faith in life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ for your forgiveness. We also see that the Garden of Eden and the Tree of Life was sealed off to man. But our access to the Tree
of Life is restored through Christ as found in the Book of Revelation.
I pray: O Lord, I give thanks for your gifts of faith, forgiveness, eternal
life, salvation and heaven. I also give thanks for your body and blood found in the bread and wine in the sacrament of Holy Communion, for the forgiveness of sins. Amen.
