Genesis 3:4–7 (ESV)
The Fall (Part 2)
the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6 So
when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. 7 Then
the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths.
The serpents venom is
doubt. Satan tries to get Eve to doubt God… and she did. She in turn passes it on to Adam. Adam could have said no… but he didn’t. God did say you “Surely you will die,” but it wasn’t immediate.
They realized that they were naked, and they covered themselves with fig leaves. I guess they were the first to design and wear organic clothing. Why did they feel the need to cover up? Doubt is very destructive.
I pray: O Lord, protect and deliver us from evil. Help us to never doubt you. Let us be quick to repent when we do. Amen.
