Genesis 2:1–3 (ESV)

The Seventh Day, God Rests

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.

It is important to take a day to rest.  God rested on the seventh day and he want you to rest too.  God made it holy.  This ties into the Third Commandment: “Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy.”  There are a lot of people that believe that this day was made for God, but that is actually backwards.  The Sabbath day was actually made for man.  Jesus tells us in Mark 2:27: “And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.”  Luther continues by stating that we should fear and love God so that we do not despise preaching and his Word, but hold it sacred and gladly hear and learn it.”

I pray: O Lord, help me to keep the Sabbath day sacred, to gladly hear and learn it.  Discipline me so that I can learn to take a much needed rest on whatever day we call our Sabbath day.  Help us to not burn ourselves out and to take that rest you gave us.  Amen.

"Depart in Peace" What a blessing when the world is so chaotic! Followers of Christ can find their peace in Him.
