Genesis 1:26–27 (ESV)
Creation of the World (Day 6 – Part 2)
26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and
over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
27 So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.
big event here is the creation of man. But there is another BIG issue that can be easily overlooked. It is found in “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” Who is the “us” or “our”? The
Bible says that there is only one God, but her God said “Let us… our image… after our likeness. This sounds confusing… but it’s not. The Christian Church believes in the Trinitarian God, that is, three persons in
one God. The word Trinity or Triune is never used in the Bible, but the concept is. Jesus in Matthew 28 tells us to “19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” This is the Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This gets back to today’s passage of “Let us make man in our image”. The Trinity is present at creation.
While Jesus was there, he was not known as Jesus, that comes much later on… but he still existed. The concept of the Trinity goes all the way back to Genesis!
I pray: O heavenly Father, help me to trust in your Word and to not try to complicate it by not understanding the mysteries of your creation. I believe you are so powerful, that you could have done all this in one day. Help
me to trust your miracles. Amen.
