Revelation 21:1–4 (ESV)
The New Heaven and the New Earth
21Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming
down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they
will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for
the former things have passed away.”
This is paradise restored! Jesus told us this would
happen in Matthew 24:35 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.” John sees this fulfilled in his vision. This paradise restored will be missing a few things. It will be missing hunger, thirst, sickness,
pain, death, sin and tears. On the faithful will enter this new heaven. We will live and dwell in God’s presence. I find today’s reading very comforting and something to look forward to living in this new heaven.
I pray: O Lord, there are many distractions that are brought on by the ways of the world and through Satan and his demons. Protect me and guide me into your kingdom.
Amen.
