Revelation 9:7–11 (ESV)
The Seven Trumpets
appearance the locusts were like horses prepared for battle: on their heads were what looked like crowns of gold; their faces were like human faces, 8 their hair like women’s hair, and their teeth like
lions’ teeth; 9 they had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the noise of their wings was like the noise of many chariots with horses rushing into battle. 10 They
have tails and stings like scorpions, and their power to hurt people for five months is in their tails. 11 They have as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit. His name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in
Greek he is called Apollyon.
The plague of Locust was mentioned in yesterday’s reading. In
today’s, we get a graphic description of the locust. These are not the ones I played with as a kid! The faces looked human! They women’s hair and a crown… and teeth like a lion! These are warrior locusts and would
be very scary! Tails with stingers! I remember to always check my boots when on the ranch, because scorpions liked to crawl into the boots because they were warm. I remember a scorpion on my bare foot, and I froze waiting for it to get off.
It was dead seconds later. I must admit, I had no mercy. Their king is Satan.
I pray: O Lord, this vision is frightening, however… you
are in control and are all powerful. Satan has already lost the battle through Christ’s death on the cross. Help us to stand firm in the faith you have given us. Amen.
