Revelation 8:8–9 (ESV)
The Seven Trumpets
second angel blew his trumpet, and something like a great mountain, burning with fire, was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became blood. 9A third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third
of the ships were destroyed.
God, working through Moses, turns the Nile River into Blood. Exodus 7:20–21
“20Moses and Aaron did as the Lord commanded. In the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants he lifted up the staff and struck the water in the Nile,
and all the water in the Nile turned into blood. 21And the fish in the Nile died, and the Nile stank, so that the Egyptians could not drink water from the Nile. There was blood throughout all the land of Egypt.
In today’s reading, we see a similar picture in that the sea becomes blood and a third of the living creature in the sea died. This does not
sound like comforting times. The Nile River is one thing, the sea… well, that is humongous!
I pray: O Lord, help me to know the times and
to trust you to guide me through. I know that it is faith that saves me, so help me to cling to the faith you gave me. Amen.
