Revelation 1:4–8 (ESV)

Greeting to the Seven Churches

John to the seven churches that are in Asia:

Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth.

To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.

“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

While verses 1-3 point out that the Revelation is given to John by God, it is for the purpose of showing “his servants” what is to come.  In today’s reading, it is very clear on “who” is God.  Today’s world may define God as:  The Triune God; the Father (only); Allah; a Supreme Being; and so on and on.  Many today refer to God as the Father only… Jews and Johovah’s Witnesses, to name a few.  Our God, as a Christian is not God the Father, but the Trinitarian God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  Verse 4 and 5 in today’s reading defines just who is meant by the term “God”.  The Trinity or Triune God is identifies as:

(Father) who is and who was and who is to come, (Holy Spirit) and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, (the Son) and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth.

Following the true identity of God, there is a quick Gospel proclaimation on God’s plan of Salvation, there very purpose of why Jesus came down from heaven.  It is stated “To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father”.  Next comes a quick worship praise: “to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”  Next comes a prophesy, promise and or warning: “Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.”  Jesus promised that He would return again coming in the clouds.  We also know that every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.  Wow... all this stated in today’s reading.  The message is easy and doesn’t need to be confusing.  It is a message we are to share.  This revelation was given to John by God to share!

I pray:  O heavenly Father, I acknowledge that you are God, the Triune God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).  We live in a world who is confused about your identity or if you even exist.  We are ridiculed for our faith in you.  Use us as a witness and a lighthouse to plant the seeds of faith.  Amen.

Look at the Words say they "fell away". The had it, but lost it. Just like the Bible says your name can be blotted out of the Book of Life.
