Matthew 28:1–10 (ESV)

The Resurrection

28 Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”

The guards at the tomb could not stop God from raising his son Jesus from the dead.  The sealed tomb… is sealed no more.  The guards could not stop the angel of the Lord, but they “trembled and became like dead men.”  Like I said a few days back, the Jews remembered about Jesus saying he would rise in three days and they had taken precautions.  The women at the tome this morning… are followers of Jesus.  They should be excited and ready to witness this… but the angel has to tell them “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.”  I almost expect one of the women to say “You mean that was REAL!”  Yes, it was!  Their hope is being restored!  Then, Jesus says “Greetings… Do not be afraid”.  Hope IS restored!

Wouldn’t it be comforting to hear Jesus tell us “Do not be afraid”?  Well, he did through his Word.  I pray: O Lord, help me to not be afraid, but to trust you in all things… even things that I do not understand.  Help me to cling to your promises, grace, mercy, and your forgiveness.  I repent of my sins and want to do better.  Amen.

Look at the Words say they "fell away". The had it, but lost it. Just like the Bible says your name can be blotted out of the Book of Life.
