Matthew 27:57–61 (ESV)
Jesus Is Buried
it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who also was a disciple of Jesus. 58He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him. 59And
Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen shroud 60and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had cut in the rock. And he rolled a great stone to the entrance of the tomb and went away. 61Mary
Magdalene and the other Mary were there, sitting opposite the tomb.
The man’s name from Arimathea is Joseph, and he was not alone. So…
who was with Joseph of Arimathea? None other than Nicodemus. John writes in his gospel “39 Nicodemus also, who earlier had come to Jesus by night, came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five
pounds in weight. 40 So they took the body of Jesus and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews.” So if you had ever wondered about Nicodemus… he is still following Jesus!
He helped prepare the body for the burial.
I pray: O Lord, we don’t always know what happens when we meet people or what influence we may have
on them. But with them emphasis on Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit! Great things can happen. Help us to not focus on ourselves, that our lives are about you. Forgive us when we become self-centered and help us turn our focus
back to you. Amen.
