Matthew 23:37–39 (ESV)
Lament over Jerusalem
37 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were
not willing! 38 See, your house is left to you desolate. 39 For I tell you, you will not see me again, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’ ”
Have you ever done anything wrong in your life and someone you love keeps bringing back up? Ok… here we go again! Will they ever forget??? It is
often deflating to be reminded of something you would like to forget. We are to be a forgiving people… not necessarily a reminding people. I would imagine the Children of Israel are not proud of their history, but it was true and part of
their past. They had killed and stoned the prophets sent by God. I sure they hated hearing this… but here they are doing again with Jesus… and they just don’t see it. They are blind to their actions and to the true identity
of Jesus. God kept bringing them back under his protection and they would keep rejecting him. We must not point our fingers at the Jews when Jesus took our sins to the cross too! We are no better… we all have fallen short.
I pray: O Lord, I repent of my sins and want to do better. I cry out “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” Thank you for everything
you have done for me, especially your forgiveness. Amen.
