Matthew 20:17–19 (ESV) (Good Friday)
Jesus Foretells His Death a Third Time
17 And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside, and on the way he said to them, 18 “See, we are going up to Jerusalem.
And the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death 19 and deliver him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third
Today is Good Friday, I’m running behind… wondering if I will do something special until I see today’s reading! WOW!
Talk about timing! This was not planned and it really caught me off guard. I’m smiling big with amazement on the Good Friday, the day that Jesus is nailed to the cross and dies. Today’s reading is the third time Jesus predicts
his death. He even tells them he will be mocked, flogged, and crucified! Three days later (Easter Sunday)… “he will be raised”. Today (Good Friday), Jesus takes our sins to the cross. We should be the ones on the
cross, but Jesus substitutes his life for ours. It is not fun to watch someone else taking a beating and then killed for something we did. If you think it is fun… well, Jesus died for you too!
I pray: O Lord, I am sorry for my sins and repent. I want to do better. I give thanks for you standing up for me to the point of death. I give thanks for your act of forgiveness. Amen.
