Matthew 17:22–23 (ESV)
Jesus Again Foretells Death, Resurrection
22 As they were gathering in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men, 23 and they will kill him, and he will
be raised on the third day.” And they were greatly distressed.
There is not much to add or take away from Jesus’ first passion prediction.
He refers to himself as the “Son of Man”. This title is used by Jesus over 80 times in the Gospels. He says He will be delivered over “into the hands of men”. He doesn’t name them in today’s prediction,
but in his first passion prediction… he did name them… “suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed”. He again makes the bold prediction that he will be raised on the third day. This
is amazing, because we cannot raise a dead body three days later. With all our technology, with all our doctor know how, they usually throw in the towel after 20 minutes. They did not have shock paddles at that time, it was the power of God!”
Even today… it is the power of God! Who could deny that God is not real?
I pray: O Lord, how can I ever doubt you? Yet I do…
every time I sin, I am doubting you. Forgive me, restore me, and guide me to your kingdom. Amen.
