Matthew 16:1–4 (ESV)

The Pharisees and Sadducees Demand Signs

16 And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test him they asked him to show them a sign from heaven. He answered them, “When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’ And in the morning, ‘It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.” So he left them and departed.

Let’s get serious… they have seen sign after sign after sign… and still did not believe.  I hear people today asking God for a sign.  Well… look in the Bible and there was sign after sign, after sign.  All these signs did not change the minds of the Pharisees or the Sadducees.  There will never be enough signs for hard-hearted people.  You see, the power to believe is given to you by God, it is not cultivated from within.  God gives you the gift of faith.

I pray: O Lord, I give thanks for your precious gift of faith.  Help me to cling to the faith you have given me and to feed it with your Word and Sacraments.  Amen.
