Matthew 14:34–36 (ESV)
Jesus Heals the Sick in Gennesaret
34 And when they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret. 35 And when the men of that place recognized him, they sent around to all that region and brought to him all who were sick 36 and implored
him that they might only touch the fringe of his garment. And as many as touched it were made well.
This is such a simple paragraph, but the depth of it can
so quickly be overlooked. The people who had seen him did not doubt his [Jesus’] power to heal. There action shows belief! When they saw Jesus, “they sent around to all that region and brought to him all who were sick and implored
him that they might only touch the fringe of his garment. And as many as touched it were made well.” Their action speaks louder that the words in today’s text. They believed, they proclaimed, and brought people to Jesus.
One may say… well yea… he was healing them. Well, I tell you today that Jesus IS healing people through Baptism! They will never die, but have eternal life. A far greater gift than being healed. A man raised from the dead
will still die, but a man who believes will live forever!
I pray: O Lord, give me courage, strength, and boldness to go and tell others what great things
he is doing for them. Forgive me for my silence when I could have spoken. Help me to know when to stop talking and let you do your job. Amen.
