A Tree and Its Fruit
“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious
wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.
Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom
of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly,
‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
Notice the warning: “Watch out for false prophets." In this day, we need to all be on alert for false prophets. There
are many on TV claiming to be Christian, but there message is wrong. The Bible warns us that Satan will mascarade as an angel of light, which means that Satan is going to try to look and sound as Godly and Holy as possible, but his message is twisted
and not right. If you don't know the bible, you can and most likely be led astray. That is Satan's desire.
"For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles
of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if hisservants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds. (2 Cor 11:13-15)
To be frank about this, there are a lot of Christians (and those of the Lutheran Denomination) that gauge a pastor on his oratory skills, that is... how well he delivers a message. They get caught up in his speaking abilities,
and miss the bad theology that is flowing through their lips. Satan sounds theological and will quote scriptures like he did in the desert with Jesus when he tempted him. Don't be dazzled by the messenger (pastor), but be dazzled by the message.
What good is a beautiful fruit tree that produces bad fruit... or no fruit.
I pray: Oh Lord, help me to judge a pastor by the content of the message, not how wells he speaks. It
is to easy to be led astray by a smooth talker, help us to measure the message to the Word of God. Amen.
