Lay Up Treasures in Heaven
not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your
treasure is, there your heart will be also.
“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full
of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and
despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
I have often heard statements like "He who dies with the most toys WINS!" It is true that the world we live in judges success by money and possessions. When
we meet someone, we often ask "So... what do you do for a living?" It is a way to find out a little more about them. If you are at a party, tell them that you are a plumber. I actually hold plumbers in high esteem. They do work that nobody else seems to want
to do. My friends who are plumbers are laughing all the way to the bank. They drive nice cars, have nice houses, and it was paid for by honest hard work. I always found my friends to be funny, easy to get along with, and were very caring people. My friends
were Christians and they put their heart into their faith, often helping out people 24 hours a day whenever a crisis occured. Jesus is telling us not to get caught up in material possessions, but treasure the greatest possessioin which is the faith that Jesus
Christ gave us. He alone is our hope and salvation. It is very easy to let money become your god. You can't have two gods, only one can get you into heaven.
I pray: O Lord, it is so easy to get caught up
in money and possessions, to the point that we turn our backs on you. Help us to keep our eyes focused on you and not our telephones, big screen TVs, cars, trucks, or homes. Help us to trust you to provide for us. In Jesus Christ name I pray, amen.
