Matthew 6:5-6

The Lord’s Prayer (Part 1)
And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

The disciples wanted to know how to pray, so Jesus taught them.  We are not to be showy or draw attention to ourselves.  Why?? Jesus says if our prayers are seen by others, then we have received our reward.  Therefore, he tells us to pray in secret. Let your prayers be between you and the Lord.

I pray:  O Lord, ...... Amen.

(Jesus often prayed, but usually sough solitude.
